Domino's Fun Facts

In 1960 the Company Started. The Brothers of Tom and James Monaghan bought a small Pizza Shop called DomiNick’s in Ypsilianti, Michigan. And they purchased it for $900.

Becaue they only had Three Stores at the Time, the Original Logo had just Three Dots. Initially the plan was to add a Dot for every New Store that they added. However that became an impossibility as their growth was absolutely spectacular.

This is an incredible statement. And when you take in the Worldwide totals (this is across more than 90 Countries); Domino’s serves millions of pizzas every week. With thousands of locations, and spanning the Globe (Literally).

With all the Smartphone Apps and Technologies for the Excited Customers, Domino’s was one of the First Major Restaurants to introduce “Online Pizza Tracking”. And it is fun; you can watch from Order, to Preparation, to Boxing and Delivery. Keeping you emotionally attached to the Hot Pizza on its way!

Many of us Remember Growing up to the Insane “30 Minutes or Less” Guarantee Domino’s Pizza Ran. I remember times when we would start the timer and see if they would beat it. And I can say, only two times were we able to cash in on the guarantee. They were Fast, and we joked they were making them in a Truck on the Way to our House. It is no longer “a Thing” but it is one of the most insane delivery guarantees of our time. And we have yet to see anyone press it again.

In 2018 (something that was a great memory for many, especially in locations that their own Cities were lax on the job), Domino’s launched its “Paving for Pizza” campaign. They literally helped with the repair of potholes in towns. This was a dual accomplishment, both in fixing community moral with issues their Cities were not fixing fast enough (some had been years of issues) and also, because rough roads can damage pizza deliveries. Communities the benefited from this (and I know one) still remember this to this day.

Domino’s Delivery Aspects have experimented with:

  • Delivery robots (More of a Novelty, and not aware of these still in operation, but with Robots increasing in capability, this may be a common thing should it become effective)
  • Drones (delivery Drones where its effective is still underway)
  • E-bikes (actrive in many Countries and locations)
  • Electric vehicles (still using them now)
  • Autonomous delivery vehicles (still testing and rolling out new methods in this manner today)

Because of huge Feedback from Customers; In 2009 things changed. It had come to a bad situation. And Domino’s publicly admitted that their customers didn’t love their pizza recipe. And they did not hide from it. They embraced it, apologized and then completely revamped the crust, sauce, and cheese. The People Love a Comeback, and the Honesty Paid Off Big Time. Sales exploded afterward.

It may feel this way on these big events, so lets break down a few of Domino’s busiest days:

  • Super Bowl Sunday
  • Halloween
  • New Year’s Eve
  • Major sports championships (College, Professional, and World Wide Sports and Events with Cricket, Soccer, Tennis and more)

Pepperoni Remains King in the United States (America), some International Favorites Vary a Lot. Here are some examples:

  • Japan: seafood toppings (shrimp, fish, octupus)
  • India: paneer and spicy vegetable combinations
  • Australia: they have unique meat combinations. Including bacon heavy pizzas

Technology and Domino’s are heavily aligned. Domino’s is often described as a tech company that happens to sell pizza. They are very “on top of tech” for huge orders in digital apps, smart TV’s, gaming consoles and more.
